Community Art

Art has a central role in expressing a community's sense of itself. Several different interest groups in a particular area can each express their uniqueness as well as their commonality with others and with the wider world. It gives people from marginalised groups an opportunity to get their messages across and to claim a physical and cultural space in their community. In doing this, it strengthens those groups.

The work is site-specific, referring to local history and culture as well as the ideas and aspirations of the participants. It might refer to ancient/historic styles of art, for example, Roman mosaics, mediaeval floors (e.g. Pontypool Park project) or to more contemporary local issues.

Workshops can be designed for people of all ages, from a variety of backgrounds, and Andrew is committed to making his workshops inclusive. Projects could run from just one day (it's surprising how much can be done) to several months.
